Dr. Oetker

In 1891, in the back room of the pharmacy he had recently taken over, August Oetker mixed a powder that would facilitate the preparation of bread dough – baking powder. While the principle already existed, this additive was odorless and had a longer shelf life. Oetker sold the powder in small bags containing a quantity equal to a pound of flour, using his doctorate as a guarantee of superior quality. Around the turn of the 20th century, he registered the trademark for his branded products, the red and white "Hellkopf," which has since adorned the packaging of his wide range of products. In addition to the baking powder, he added pudding powder, vanilla sugar, and other baking ingredients. In 1970, the Dr. Oetker company brought a revolution to the market – the frozen pizza, which could be easily heated in the oven at home. Even today, the practical baking mixes and ready-to-eat cake specialties enjoy great popularity, not only in Germany.
